The performance group Seattle Cheta, part of The Bulgarian Cultural and Heritage Center of Seattle (BCHCS), was established in April, 2014, to participate in Chicago’s Verea Bulgarian Folk Festival. The name is a combination of “seattlecheta” – people from Seattle and (Seattle) “cheta” – a Bulgarian term for a band that evokes connotation to the heroic Bulgarian Enlightenment. Group members are Bulgarians who initially attended "Rabotilnitsata" – the weekly adult folk dance workshop and later developed a repertoire for stage performances.
We take joy in bringing back to life old traditional Bulgarian songs and dances.
